Apple May Team Up With OpenAI or Anthropic to Make Siri Smarter

Apple is looking for a new way to upgrade its popular voice assistant, Siri. Recent reports say the company is now in talks with two leading AI firms: OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT, and Anthropic, who make the Claude chatbot.

Why Apple Wants Help

Siri was once a leader in voice technology. But over time, it has fallen behind newer systems like ChatGPT and Google Gemini. Siri can do basic tasks but often struggles with complex questions or holding a long conversation.

Apple has been working on a big Siri update for years. However, the company’s own AI team has had trouble building a new system that works well with Siri’s old design. The upgrade has been delayed and may not be ready until at least spring 2026.

The Possible Partners

According to reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple recently talked with OpenAI and Anthropic. Apple has asked both companies to make special AI models that could run on Apple’s own servers. These discussions show Apple is thinking about using outside help, which is unusual for the company.

If Apple works with OpenAI or Anthropic, it could speed up Siri’s improvement and help Apple compete better in the fast-changing world of AI.

What’s Next for Siri?

Apple is still working on its own new AI system, called “LLM Siri.” But there is pressure to upgrade Siri quickly. Many users are eager for a smarter and more helpful voice assistant.

Nothing has been decided yet. But if Apple chooses to partner with OpenAI or Anthropic, it could finally bring the major Siri upgrade that users have been waiting for.

Apple may be ready to do things differently to help Siri catch up with its competition and stay relevant in the world of AI.
