Netflix to Invest Over €1 Billion in Spain, Marking 10 Years of Success

Netflix has announced a major investment of over €1 billion ($1.14 billion) in Spain for the years 2025 to 2028. This news came as the company celebrated its 10th anniversary in Spain with a large event in Madrid.

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos shared the news on June 10. He said the company wants to keep making high-quality Spanish series, movies, and documentaries. This investment is one of the biggest for Netflix in Europe, matching what the company spends in France and Mexico.

Over the past decade, Netflix has changed how people see Spanish content. Spanish series like “Money Heist” and “Elite” have become global hits. In fact, Spain has more entries in Netflix’s Top 10 non-English TV shows and movies than any other country. In 2024 alone, Netflix shows made in Spain were watched for over 5 billion hours.

Netflix’s success in Spain is not just about big viewing numbers. The company has helped create jobs and support the Spanish film and TV industry. More than 20,000 jobs have been supported in Spain’s audiovisual sector. Netflix has also filmed in over 200 cities and towns across the country.

Netflix is also raising the bar for production quality. New shows like “Billionaires’ Bunker,” set to release in September, feature large sets and advanced technology. Netflix’s focus is now on working with local talent and telling stories that are truly Spanish.

This new investment shows Netflix’s strong belief in Spanish content. The company plans to keep working with Spanish creators to make shows and movies that can succeed both in Spain and around the world.
