Borderlands 4

Borderlands 4 Pricing and Hardware Requirements Spark Backlash Among Fans

The PC system requirements and pricing for Borderlands 4 have been revealed, and many fans are unhappy.

The minimum GPU needed is an NVIDIA RTX 3070, with an RTX 3080 or AMD RX 6800 XT recommended to run the game smoothly. The game also suggests an octa-core CPU, 32GB of RAM, and up to 100GB of SSD storage. These high demands have caused frustration among players.

Borderlands is known for its cel-shaded art style, which traditionally has been less demanding on hardware. However, the new game uses Unreal Engine 5, which requires more powerful components. Some fans question why a game with stylized graphics needs such a strong PC.

The pricing has also upset many. The standard edition costs $70, which is similar to the previous game. But the Deluxe and Super Deluxe editions, priced at $100 and $130 respectively, include extra missions, vehicles, and even two new playable characters only available in the most expensive edition. This approach has been criticized as paywalling important content.

Additionally, Borderlands 4 will include DRM software like Denuvo and Symbiote, which some gamers worry could affect performance.

The game is scheduled for release on September 12 for PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Switch 2 players will have to wait longer.

Fans hope the developers will optimize the game to run better on more affordable hardware before launch.
