Elon Musk’s Starlink is preparing to launch satellite internet services in India. The company has received a key license from the Ministry of Telecommunications, clearing the way for its entry into India’s broadband market. The launch is expected within the next 12 months.

According to reports, Starlink will offer unlimited data for ₹3,000 per month. Customers will also need to pay ₹33,000 as a one-time cost for the receiver kit.

Starlink plans to focus on rural and remote areas of India where regular internet services are weak or unavailable. Using its network of low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, Starlink aims to provide reliable internet with speeds of 600–700 Gbps across the country.

India is known for offering some of the cheapest internet in the world, but Starlink is positioning itself as a premium option for places that don’t have good fiber or mobile network access.

Starlink joins Bharti Airtel’s OneWeb and Reliance Jio’s satellite services as one of the three companies approved to provide satellite internet in India.

While the license has been approved, Starlink still needs other clearances before the official launch. Final approval on spectrum allocation is still pending from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

Starlink already operates in several Asian countries, including Bangladesh, where the pricing is similar to the planned rates for India.

Once fully approved, Starlink could change internet access for millions in remote parts of India.
