Disney has announced that “Moana 2” will be available for streaming on Disney+ starting March 12.
The highly anticipated sequel follows Moana on a brand-new adventure across the ocean, bringing back fan-favorite characters and introducing new ones.
A Theatrical Hit Turned Streaming Sensation
Originally planned as a Disney+ series, “Moana 2” was reworked into a feature film, a move that proved to be a huge success. The movie earned over $1 billion at the box office, making it the third highest-grossing film of 2024.
The story picks up three years after the original film, with Moana setting sail once again after receiving a mysterious call from her ancestors. Joined by Maui and a new crew of seafarers, she embarks on a journey to explore dangerous, uncharted waters.
A New Creative Team with Familiar Voices
The sequel was directed by David G. Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller, all making their directorial debuts.
Auli’i Cravalho returns as Moana, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson reprises his role as Maui. Other cast members include Temuera Morrison, Nicole Scherzinger, and Rose Matafeo.
Unlike the first movie, which featured Lin-Manuel Miranda’s music, the sequel’s soundtrack was created by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear.
What Critics Are Saying
Critics have praised “Moana 2” for its stunning animation and thrilling adventure, though some note that Moana herself doesn’t have as much inner growth this time around.
However, the exciting action, mythical creatures, and breathtaking visuals make it a must-watch.
Fans who missed the theatrical release—or those eager to relive the magic—can catch “Moana 2” on Disney+ starting March 12.
