Chromecast with Google TV Discontinued – What You Need to Know

Google has stopped selling the Chromecast with Google TV 4K and HD models in the Google Store.

The product listings now show “No longer available”, marking the end of an era for the popular streaming device.

What Happened?

As of February 20, 2025, Google has removed the Chromecast with Google TV from its store. The Smart Home > Streaming section now only features the Google TV Streamer, which is the company’s newest streaming device.

Earlier this week, some versions of the Chromecast with Google TV were still available in select colors, priced at $49.99 for the 4K model and $29.99 for the HD model. However, with the introduction of the Google TV Streamer, Google had already announced that sales would continue only until inventory runs out.

Why Is Google Discontinuing It?

Google believes that cheap streaming devices are no longer in high demand. Many modern televisions already come with built-in streaming capabilities, reducing the need for external streaming devices like Chromecast.

What About Updates and Support?

Even though the Chromecast with Google TV is no longer on sale, Google will continue providing updates and support for existing users. However, the long-awaited Android 14 update is still pending.

Can You Still Buy Chromecast with Google TV?

If you still want a Chromecast with Google TV, you may find limited stock at third-party retailers. For example, Best Buy is offering the HD model for $14.99 in a clearance sale, but it is no longer available for in-store purchases.

What About the Remote?

The Voice Remote for Chromecast with Google TV is currently not available for purchase, but Google offers a “Get notified” option in case it returns. Meanwhile, the Google TV Streamer Voice Remote is available, but some features like Find My Remote and customizable buttons only work with the Google TV Streamer.

Google has officially discontinued the Chromecast with Google TV, shifting its focus to the Google TV Streamer.

While updates will continue, the device is no longer available from Google’s store, and stock at other retailers is running out fast.

If you still want one, now might be your last chance to grab it before it’s gone forever.
