Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has addressed the years-long debate about the future of GTA Online, especially as GTA 6 draws closer.

In a recent statement, Zelnick hinted that a potential successor to GTA Online wouldn’t necessarily mean the end for the current game.

He highlighted Take-Two’s commitment to supporting legacy titles when there is an engaged community.

What’s Next for GTA Online?

With the highly anticipated release of GTA 6, many fans have questioned whether GTA Online will be left behind. Some worry that a new game could overshadow the existing online experience.

Zelnick, however, reassured fans that Take-Two has shown a history of supporting long-running titles. He pointed to the NBA 2K franchise, which has seen two online versions live side-by-side in China for years.

“We’ve shown a willingness to support legacy titles when the community wants to stay engaged with them,” Zelnick said, without revealing specifics about future projects.

Live-Service Games: A Growing Trend

The question of what happens to live-service games like GTA Online when a new title is released isn’t new. Games like Call of Duty’s Warzone have managed to evolve without replacing the previous iteration.

Take-Two’s strategy with GTA Online seems to align with this trend, allowing both the old and new titles to coexist, especially when players are still invested in the experience.

As the GTA series continues to evolve, it seems that the future of GTA Online is far from certain, but it’s clear that Take-Two remains open to keeping both games alive as long as there’s demand.
