TikTok Removed from Smart TVs as Companies Follow U.S. Ban Law

TikTok has quietly disappeared from several smart TVs, as major companies like Samsung, LG, Vizio, Amazon, Google, and Apple comply with a ban law that went into effect on January 19, 2025.

LG informed users that TikTok would no longer be available on its content store. Meanwhile Amazon removed the app from its Fire TV operating system.

Google did the same with Google Play for its Android TV and Google TV platforms. Apple also followed suit by removing TikTok from its TV operating system.

TikTok first launched its TV app in 2021 and expanded to other platforms, allowing users to watch vertical videos on larger screens.

However, with 170 million American users, TikTok still primarily sees engagement through mobile devices.

Despite the app’s removal, companies like Oracle and Akamai appear willing to risk fines to bring TikTok back during the 75-day pause on enforcing the ban, but its future on smart TVs remains uncertain.
