Android 16

Google is testing a new feature in Android 16 that could let users replace the double-tap power button shortcut, which currently opens the camera, with a shortcut to Google Wallet or other wallet apps.

This option, found in the Android 16 Beta, allows users to choose which app opens with the gesture.

New Setting in Android 16

In the first Android 16 Beta, a new “Double tap power button” setting appears in the “Gestures” section of the Settings menu.

This feature lets users choose between opening the camera or the default wallet app (Google Wallet for most). Users can also disable the gesture if they prefer.

Testing in Android 15

Although the feature is not enabled by default in Android 15‘s latest QPR2 Beta, it has been spotted there as well.

It seems likely that the feature will officially launch in Android 16 later this year.
