How Free Our Feeds Plans to Keep Bluesky Open and Accessible

The Free Our Feeds campaign seeks to protect Bluesky’s AT Protocol from being controlled by billionaires.

The initiative aims to create a public-interest foundation to fund independent infrastructure, ensuring that Bluesky’s tech remains open, even if the platform is sold.

The campaign wants to support the development of new social networks based on the AT Protocol. It’s backed by figures like Mark Ruffalo, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, and Mozilla’s Mark Surman.

Concerns exist that Bluesky could be swayed by venture capital or billionaire control. The goal is to raise $30 million over three years to build independent infrastructure and keep the tech open.

Free Our Feeds aims to safeguard Bluesky’s technology and ensure that social media remains decentralized and open.
