Android May Add Double Tap Shortcut for Google Wallet

Google Wallet

Google is working on a new feature that will allow Android users to launch Google Wallet with a quick double tap of the power button.

Currently, this gesture is used to open the camera app on most Android phones, but this could change in the future.

The feature is being tested in the latest Android beta and developer preview builds. It is linked to a new configuration named “config_walletDoubleTapPowerGestureEnabled,” which suggests the power button double tap will open the default wallet app, such as Google Wallet on Pixel phones.

While the feature is still under development, it could be added in a future Android update. The option to customize the double tap gesture could also be available under the phone’s settings.

It’s not clear whether this feature will be limited to phones or extend to other devices, like smartwatches, which already use a double tap to launch the wallet app.

Would you use this feature if it becomes available? Let us know in the comments!
