Samsung Takes Another Shot at Popularizing 3D Displays in 2025

Samsung is making another attempt to popularize 3D displays with the launch of the Odyssey 3D monitor. Unveiled today, this new product builds on the prototypes Samsung showcased at CES 2024.

Unlike previous 3D monitors that required glasses, the Odyssey 3D uses a lenticular lens and a stereo camera to create a customizable 3D experience without the need for special eyewear.

The monitor leverages artificial intelligence to convert 2D content into 3D, an advancement that Samsung claims will work even with content that doesn’t officially support 3D.

This technology is similar to what brands like Acer have introduced, but Samsung’s approach is unique in its glasses-free design.

The Odyssey 3D will come in a 27-inch, 4K resolution version, though a larger 37-inch model that was teased last year has not been released, possibly due to performance issues or low demand.

Samsung’s new monitor, along with other displays it plans to show at CES 2025, signals the company’s efforts to refine 3D technology for a more consumer-friendly market, particularly aimed at gamers.

However, it remains to be seen whether 2025 will truly be the year for 3D consumer displays, as the industry has tried and failed to make them mainstream in the past.
