Instagram to Improve DM Search with Potential Keyword Feature

Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, recently responded to a user query during his AMA, hinting that a much-requested feature could be on the way.

The feature in question is a keyword search for the Request inbox, which would allow users to filter through their message requests more effectively.

This idea was brought up by user @ben_yanes, who suggested adding a search bar to help users sort through messages by keywords.

Creators, in particular, receive numerous message requests, many of which are spam, while others may be from potential followers or clients. A search function could make it much easier to sift through these messages and find the relevant ones.

Mosseri acknowledged that this was a great idea and mentioned that it is something Instagram might roll out in 2025.

Currently, Instagram’s inbox only allows users to search for conversations with specific users, but there’s no way to search for specific keywords within the Request folder.

While WhatsApp already offers a similar feature, Instagram has yet to implement it. Adding a keyword search to the Request inbox would be a major convenience, particularly for users who receive high volumes of messages, helping them filter out spam and focus on important conversations.

Mosseri also teased that Instagram Search will be improving in other ways next year, suggesting more features to enhance the user experience.
