Apple has reportedly stopped developing its iPhone hardware subscription service, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
The service, which was expected to let subscribers get a new iPhone annually, faced delays due to software bugs and regulatory concerns.
Initial Plans and Delays
Apple first explored the idea in 2022, with plans to launch the service that same year. However, technical and legal challenges caused repeated delays. Now, it seems the company has abandoned the project entirely.
Alternatives for iPhone Buyers
While the subscription service won’t move forward, Apple continues to offer installment options for purchasing iPhones:
- iPhone Upgrade Program: Spread payments over 24 months and upgrade after 12 months.
- Apple Card Monthly Installments: Use an Apple Card to pay for iPhones and other products over time.
Recent Shutdowns
The cancellation follows Apple’s decision to shut down Apple Pay Later just months after its full launch, raising questions about the company’s long-term plans for financial services.
Despite this setback, Apple remains focused on offering flexible payment solutions for its customers.
