Apple is preparing to make a significant push into the smart home market with the upcoming release of the HomePad this spring. This new device could potentially replace the HomePod, but it might also complement it.
The HomePod has always been known for its superior audio quality, but its Siri assistant has struggled to compete with rivals like Alexa.
While Apple has steadily improved Siri, current HomePods can’t support the upcoming advancements in Apple Intelligence, including the new, more powerful Siri arriving next year.
Enter the HomePad, which is expected to support the upgraded Siri and offer much more than the HomePod.
According to Mark Gurman’s reporting, the HomePad will be a smart display with internal speakers, but the real innovation lies in its versatility.
Apple is designing detachable attachments, such as speaker bases and wall mounts, that will enhance its functionality. These attachments may also offer music quality similar to or even better than the HomePod mini, making the HomePod less necessary.
Apple may choose to have the HomePod and HomePad coexist, with HomePods focusing on audio while the HomePad handles more advanced tasks like video calls and smart home control.
Alternatively, if the HomePad’s speakers can match the HomePod’s sound quality, it could replace the HomePod entirely.
Either way, the HomePad looks set to be a key part of Apple’s smart home strategy, and its relationship with the HomePod will become clearer as more details emerge.
