Samsung’s long-anticipated AR smart glasses are finally nearing their debut. According to reports, the wearable will be unveiled during the Samsung Galaxy S25 Unpacked Event in January 2025.

However, a recent leak has revealed a surprising design detail: the first-generation glasses will not feature a display.

Tipster Jukanlosreve shared on Twitter that Samsung’s decision stems from the immaturity of micro-LED technology.

Instead, the glasses will resemble Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, focusing on basic AR functionality without integrated visual overlays. Display-equipped models are expected in the second or third generation starting in 2026.

Samsung’s interest in AR and XR (Extended Reality) products has been hinted at before, including patents for headsets with controllers and gesture controls.

The upcoming glasses are expected to use components like micro-LED projectors from Chinese company JBD, though this remains unconfirmed.

As competition heats up, Meta is also exploring similar territory with its Project Orion smart glasses, which already feature micro-LED displays.

However, those are still in the testing phase and aren’t expected to reach consumers before Samsung’s upgraded models.

With Samsung’s 2025 launch, the AR market is set to grow, and the industry is watching closely for the tech giant’s next move.
