UK Experts Say Social Media Ban for Under-16s Could Do More Harm Than Good

Child safety experts in the UK have raised concerns about a potential social media ban for under-16s, similar to Australia’s recent move.

While the ban is supported by many Australians, UK experts argue it could drive teens to the dark web and increase isolation.

Peter Wanless of the NSPCC opposed the ban, stressing that children need safer, age-appropriate online experiences, not complete restrictions.

Andy Burrows from the Molly Rose Foundation called it a “kneejerk response” that could worsen risks.

While some support the ban as a stance against big tech, UK authorities are focused on making online platforms safer rather than imposing an outright ban.
