NVIDIA has rolled out a new update for its Shield TV devices, but it comes with mixed results.
The hotfix, version 33.2.0.295, is available for the 2015 and 2017 Shield TV models, bringing security improvements for 4K DRM playback and introducing French parental controls.
However, users of the 2019 Shield TV will have to wait due to a significant compatibility issue with Google Home.
Key Details:
- New Features:
- Added French parental controls.
- Security enhancements for 4K DRM playback.
- Known Issues:
- Google Home integration breaks on the 2019 Shield TV.
NVIDIA stated they are holding off on releasing the update for the 2019 models until Google addresses the compatibility issue.
Users with the 2015 and 2017 models can download the update in beta, but it remains unclear when the update will be widely available across all devices.
This update follows last month’s improvements that addressed various bugs on the aging Shield TV hardware, highlighting NVIDIA’s ongoing support for the device despite its age.
If you rely on Google Home integration and own a 2019 Shield TV, it’s advisable to hold off on updating until further fixes are announced.
