Marvel Studios has officially announced the next two Avengers movies, titled “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars”. Avengers: Doomsday is slated for release on May 1, 2026, with Secret Wars following on May 7, 2027.
The big news is that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU as the villain Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday.ย It’s unclear how his character will fit into the story, but Downey Jr. teased “New mask, same task” when announcing his casting.
The Russo Brothers, who directed Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, are returning to helm both Doomsday and Secret Wars.ย “When we directed Avengers: Endgame, we really believed it was the end for us in the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” said Joe Russo. “That four-movie run was incredible, and it left us creatively spent. However, in the time since, the duo found a “very special story” that convinced them to come back.
“The casts of Fantastic Four (Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Thunderbolts (Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell) will also be part of the next two Avengers films.
The original title for Avengers 5 was “The Kang Dynasty”, but it was changed after actor Jonathan Majors, who played Kang, was found guilty of assault.ย Marvel Studios has pivoted to focusing on Doctor Doom instead.
Plot details are still under wraps, but Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be an epic conclusion to the Multiverse Saga of the MCU. Fans will have to wait until May 2026 to see how it all unfolds on the big screen.
