Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says game pricing will depend on each title, as fans worry that GTA 6 could cost up to $100. This comes shortly after Take-Two’s publishing label, 2K, announced that Mafia: The Old Country will launch for just $50.
Zelnick said, “We’ve always had variable pricing,” explaining that Take-Two sets prices based on how much value a game delivers. He said their goal is to offer more value than they charge, and that decisions are made case-by-case.
Speaking about Mafia: The Old Country, Zelnick said the game looks great and that they want as many people as possible to play it. Despite being a AAA title, Mafia is priced lower than many recent games because it offers a more linear, focused experience instead of an open-world one.
“If you create a huge hit, and everyone wants it and everyone buys it, the revenue is going to take care of itself,” Zelnick added.
While Mafia is priced modestly, the advanced graphics and massive scope shown in GTA 6’s trailers suggest a much bigger game. That has led fans to worry that GTA 6 could set a new high for AAA game pricing, possibly reaching $100.
As other companies, like Nintendo, also raise prices on their major releases, gamers are watching closely to see how far publishers will go. Rockstar has not yet confirmed a price for GTA 6.
