YouTube to Remove Trending Page After a Decade, Shift Focus to Personalized and Category-Based Discovery

YouTube has announced it will shut down its Trending page, a key feature since 2015, marking a major change in how users discover popular content on the platform. The decision reflects evolving viewer habits and a shift toward more personalized and category-specific recommendations.

The company confirmed that both the Trending page and its associated “Trending Now” list will be removed in the coming weeks. In their place, YouTube will introduce category-based charts like Trending Music Videos, Weekly Top Podcast Shows, and Trending Movie Trailers. Additional categories are expected to roll out over time.

According to YouTube, this change aligns with how users now consume content. Most viewers find videos through their homepages, search results, Shorts, or community posts, rather than browsing a general Trending list. Over the past five years, traffic to the Trending page has dropped significantly.

When the Trending page was launched, it served as a central hub for viral videos, music debuts, and news highlights. However, YouTube says that today’s online trends are shaped by diverse communities and micro-trends, making a single, global list less meaningful.

For viewers, the removal means they will no longer see a unified list of trending content. Instead, they will be offered more tailored recommendations and can explore popular content within specific categories.

For creators, YouTube will continue offering tools through YouTube Studio, including the “Inspiration” tab, to help them stay informed about relevant trends. The platform is also working on features to boost visibility for up-and-coming creators.

The move is part of YouTube’s broader effort to adapt to changing content consumption patterns and provide a more personalized experience for its global user base.
