Honor has unveiled a humanoid robot and a phone with a robotic arm. The Chinese tech company showed off the devices at a trade show in Barcelona on Sunday.
The firm spun out from Huawei in 2020. It started as a budget brand but is now pivoting hard into artificial intelligence. Honor plans to spend $10 billion over five years to become an AI powerhouse.
The humanoid robot is the company’s first android. It performed remote-controlled gestures and poses on stage. Honor intends to deploy it in customer service roles. The company has not revealed pricing or a release date.
The robot phone features a 200-megapixel camera mounted on an articulating arm. It launches in China later this year. The camera can nod, shake its head, and dance in sync with music playback.
Three micro-motors power the arm. They are 70% smaller than current market standards. The system tracks subjects automatically and responds to both voice commands and hand gestures.
The mobile industry is betting big on AI this year. However, a global memory chip shortage could shrink the smartphone market by 13%. Honor hopes these premium gadgets will offset rising manufacturing costs.
