A 24-year-old father-of-two, Blue Stevens, was stabbed to death on Wednesday evening (July 9) in Knightsbridge, central London, in what police believe may have been a robbery attempt.
Stevens was attacked outside the Park Tower Hotel near Seville Street around 9:30pm while returning to his car with his partner. Reports suggest the masked attacker tried to steal his Rolex watch. Despite efforts from police, paramedics, and London’s Air Ambulance, Stevens was pronounced dead at the scene.
A murder investigation has been launched by the Metropolitan Police. So far, no arrests have been made.
What Happened
According to eyewitnesses, Stevens was approached by a masked man riding what may have been an e-scooter or bicycle. The attacker reportedly tried to grab Stevens’ watch before stabbing him and fleeing the scene.
The area is now covered in flowers and tributes to Stevens, and the Park Tower Hotel has stated that no guests or staff were involved.
Police Response and Investigation
The Met Police have confirmed they are pursuing several lines of enquiry, including robbery. However, they are keeping an open mind about the motive. Officers from the Specialist Crime Command are leading the investigation, and a crime scene remains in place.
Superintendent Owen Renowden said:
“Our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones following the shocking events. We understand the impact this will have on the local community, and extra officers will be present in the area.”
London’s Deputy Mayor for Policing, Kaya Comer-Schwartz, condemned the attack as “appalling” and assured the public of increased police patrols.
