Yahoo has re-entered the Android launcher market with a new app, six years after discontinuing its previous Aviate launcher.
The new Yahoo Launcher offers a unified search bar, a trending news page, and basic customization options.
Key features include a bottom search bar for quick access to contacts, settings, and web searches, and a swipe-right page similar to Google Discover.
Users can customize icon styles, sizes, and grid layouts. The launcher supports light and dark themes and includes a first-party wallpaper collection.
However, the current version feels unpolished. Testing revealed bugs, including app crashes, unsupported home gesture, and missing features like third-party icon pack support and app folder creation.
The launcher lacks advanced functionality compared to existing Android launcher options.
Despite its current limitations, Yahoo’s return to the launcher space signals potential future development in an area that has seen declining innovation in recent years.
