Apple’s annual WWDC event is set for June 9, and this year, all eyes are on how the company will follow up after two ambitious — but rocky — tech leaps: the Vision Pro in 2023 and Apple Intelligence in 2024.
Instead of big new products, Apple is expected to focus on software redesigns, health upgrades, and maybe one surprise device.
Goodbye iOS 19, Hello iOS 26
Apple is likely changing its operating system naming strategy. According to reports, Apple will switch from traditional version numbers to year-based names: iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, and so on. This move mirrors what Samsung did in 2020 and could help users better track current versions across devices.
A Fresh Look Across All Apple Devices
A major design overhaul is expected across all Apple platforms. Inspired by the Vision Pro’s glass-like interface, the new design will include transparent layers, soft edges, and circular icons. The change will likely bring a more unified feel to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
Health Features Get an AI Boost
The Apple Watch is set to get new AI-powered tools. Features may include message summaries, translation, and health insights generated by Apple Intelligence. Apple may also introduce a premium Health subscription for deeper analytics, similar to Google’s Fitbit Premium.
Battery Life Improvements Through AI
Apple Intelligence might also help improve battery life, particularly on iPhones and Apple Watches. Smarter power modes and background optimizations could be key features this year.
Gaming Hub and VR Support Incoming?
Apple may finally upgrade its gaming experience. A new game launcher app could unify Apple Arcade and third-party games. The company also recently bought RAC7, the studio behind Sneaky Sasquatch. On the VR side, Apple may add PlayStation VR2 controller support for the Vision Pro.
Vision Pro: Smarter AI, Smarter Cameras
So far, Apple Intelligence on the Vision Pro has not used the device’s cameras to “see” the world. That could change. Expect possible camera-aware AI features, like object recognition and live scene description — bringing it closer to what Google and Meta offer.
A New HomePod with a Screen?
The biggest possible hardware reveal may be a HomePod with a built-in display. Rumors suggest it will function as a smart home control panel or digital photo frame. The idea of a robotic base that tracks your face may no longer be in play, but the device could still mark Apple’s next step in home tech.
WWDC 2025 Starts June 9
The keynote begins at 10 a.m. PT on June 9, live from Apple Park. Apple is expected to reveal its latest OS updates, demo Apple Intelligence improvements, and maybe surprise us with new hardware. Whether it’s smarter devices or a smarter home, Apple has a lot to prove this year.
