Celebrating the Universal Language of Emojis on World Emoji Day

World Emoji Day is an annual unofficial holiday celebrated on July 17th each year to celebrate the use of emojis. The date was chosen based on the calendar emoji (📅) on Apple devices, which displays the date July 17th.

World Emoji Day was created in 2014 by Jeremy Burge, the founder of Emojipedia, as a way to recognize the growing popularity and importance of emojis in digital communication. Since then, the day has become a popular time for companies to make announcements and releases related to emojis.

Emojis have become an integral part of how people express themselves online, with billions sent every day on platforms like Facebook Messenger. The Unicode Consortium, which manages the emoji standard, has worked to make emojis more diverse and inclusive, adding options for different skin tones, hair colors, and representations of disability.

World Emoji Day is celebrated by people sharing emojis on social media using the hashtag #WorldEmojiDay. Emojipedia and other organizations also use the day to highlight new and notable emojis. Ultimately, World Emoji Day is a lighthearted celebration of the role emojis play in our digital lives.
