Sony may be planning a PlayStation Showcase this summer, following a recent State of Play livestream that focused on smaller games for PS4 and PS5.
According to Jeff Grubb, there’s internal debate on whether the next event will be a full PlayStation Showcase or another State of Play.
While a final decision hasn’t been made, Grubb suggests that if it’s a Showcase, we can expect big announcements like more details on Marvel’s Wolverine and other games potentially releasing in 2026.
This summer could be a prime opportunity for Sony to unveil significant updates on highly anticipated titles like Wolverine, which was first revealed in 2021 but has been relatively quiet since.
Due to a ransomware attack on developer Insomniac in 2023, early footage and game details were leaked, but fans are hopeful for an official update at the event.
In addition to Wolverine, there’s speculation that Sony could also reveal Venom’s solo game, which was rumored to be in development. This was part of the same ransomware leak, with many fans believing it could be a smaller, Miles Morales-esque title.
Grubb also discussed PlayStation’s first-party lineup, noting that fans have expressed disappointment with the lack of major releases for PS5.
However, he believes the summer Showcase could be an opportunity for Sony to set the stage for a bigger year in 2026, helping to boost the excitement around PlayStation’s future offerings.
