Why You Should Change Your Gmail Address in 2025

Google is set to introduce significant changes to Gmail in 2025, and for many users, this could mean it’s time to change their email address.

The company is working on AI-driven upgrades to improve Gmail’s cyber defenses. While Gmail already blocks more than 99.9% of spam, phishing, and malware, the rise of AI-powered cybercrime means that threats are becoming more sophisticated and harder to detect.

The FBI has warned of a surge in email and website threats, with this holiday season being one of the most dangerous.

Despite Gmail’s efforts, email security remains a challenge, and experts predict that the increase in AI tools will only make scams more convincing.

To address this, Google is developing a new feature called Shielded Email. This will allow users to create temporary or one-time email aliases that forward messages to their primary account, similar to Apple’s Hide My Email feature.

This move aims to protect personal email addresses from being exposed to spam and cybercriminals.

Email remains a vulnerable technology because addresses are easy to harvest and can be used as credentials for online services.

As spam continues to make up a large portion of email traffic, businesses are turning to alternatives like Slack and Teams.

Google’s new email masking technology will help, but experts agree that a complete overhaul of email security is needed.

To stay safe, users should consider switching to a new email address and use features like Shielded Email to protect their personal information.

With the rise of AI and the increasing frequency of cyberattacks, taking control of your email security should be a priority in 2025.
