Solo Leveling, one of the most popular anime of recent years, may not return until 2028. This long delay has sparked concern among fans, especially since the anime is quickly catching up to the original manhwa story.
The anime, produced by A-1 Pictures and streamed on Crunchyroll, has adapted over 110 chapters of the source material across just two seasons. The manhwa itself has 179 chapters, which means the story could be finished in two more seasons if the current pace continues.
The delay for Season 3 was recently hinted at by Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini, who said the studio wants to explore other projects for now. The English voice actor for Sung Jinwoo also said the next season “won’t be coming out for a while.”
While this might disappoint fans, there could be a reason for the long gap. The final chapters of the manhwa were rushed because of illustrator Jang Sung-rak’s declining health before his death in 2022. Fans hope the anime will expand and improve these final story arcs, possibly requiring extra time for quality production.
Adding to the speculation, a sequel titled Solo Leveling: Ragnarok has already been published. It follows Jinwoo’s son, Suho, and could serve as the next phase of the anime after the original story ends. Though it’s currently on pause due to the author’s health, it already has enough content for a new season in the future.
As of now, Solo Leveling Season 3 has no official release date. But if production does stretch to 2028, fans may still have more anime to look forward to—both in finishing Jinwoo’s journey and starting a new one with Ragnarok.
