As AI-generated content continues to rise in popularity across various media, some Grand Theft Auto fans have wondered whether GTA 6 might incorporate this technology.

While Rockstar Games has kept most details about the upcoming title under wraps, including whether AI will play a role, there are several reasons why the studio might choose not to use AI-generated content.

Here are five possible reasons why GTA 6 might not go down this path.

1. GTA 6 is Likely Rockstar’s Biggest Release Ever

The anticipation for GTA 6 is unlike anything else in the gaming world. Fans have been eagerly speculating about every detail, from the GTA 6 trailer to the game’s possible release date. With so much hype surrounding the game, Rockstar can’t afford to make any missteps.

The studio likely wants to ensure the game meets the high expectations of its fans, avoiding any potential issues that could arise from using AI-generated content. This caution could be why Rockstar might steer clear of AI-generated assets, focusing instead on hand-crafted content that ensures quality and consistency.

2. The Technology is Still Relatively New

AI-generated content has only recently become widely available, and while it has made its mark in fields like video and music production, it’s still considered to be in its early stages. With GTA 6 slated for a Fall 2025 release, the technology would have been relatively new during the game’s development.

This means that Rockstar Games may not have had the time to fully integrate AI-generated content into the game, especially when considering the complexity and scale of a Grand Theft Auto title.

3. Lack of Intricate Details or Potential Mistakes

One of the hallmarks of Rockstar Games titles, especially Red Dead Redemption 2, is their attention to detail. From NPC behavior to dialogue and environmental assets, the level of craftsmanship in these games is exceptional. AI-generated content, while faster, often lacks the level of detail and refinement that Rockstar is known for.

In fact, AI-generated artwork in other games, like Call of Duty Black Ops 6, has been criticized for mistakes such as extra fingers on characters. This could be a major concern for a game as detail-oriented as GTA 6.

4. Mismatched Art Style

Every game has its unique art style, and GTA 6 is expected to follow the same level of distinctive design that previous Grand Theft Auto games are known for. AI-generated content, however, can sometimes produce assets that don’t align with the established art direction of a game.

This could result in a mismatch of assets like buildings, trees, or character models that don’t fit the world of GTA 6, potentially breaking the immersion that Rockstar Games is so good at creating.

5. Potential Copyright Issues

Grand Theft Auto often features fictional brands, like Sprunk and eCola, which add to the game’s satirical tone. However, AI-generated content could inadvertently create assets that resemble real-world brands too closely, leading to potential copyright issues.

Rockstar would need to ensure that any AI-generated content doesn’t violate intellectual property rights, which could be a risk if the technology isn’t properly controlled.

While the idea of using AI-generated content in GTA 6 might seem appealing on paper, the potential drawbacks — such as lack of detail, mismatched art style, and copyright issues — could make it a risky choice for Rockstar Games.

Given the high expectations for the game, the studio may prefer to rely on traditional methods of content creation to ensure that GTA 6 delivers the immersive, detailed experience fans are eagerly awaiting.
