WhatsApp has finally released its chat themes feature to all users in 2025. The update brings color options beyond the app’s traditional green design.
Key Features:
- 20 different color options
- 30 new wallpapers
- Personal theme settings for each chat
- Customizable chat bubbles and UI elements
The new themes only affect individual chats. Users can see their chosen theme, but it doesn’t change what other users see.
This is different from Instagram and Facebook Messenger, where themes apply to both users in a conversation.
How It Works:
- Users can access themes in Chat Settings
- They can choose preset themes or create custom ones
- Themes only show inside conversations
- The main app screen stays unchanged
Competition Comparison:
- Instagram and Messenger already have chat themes
- Telegram offers more customization options
- WhatsApp’s implementation allows more personal control
Current Limitations:
- Themes don’t affect all parts of the app
- Some screens still show default colors
- Main app interface remains unchanged
WhatsApp says more updates are coming. The company plans to expand theme options across the entire app in future updates.
While WhatsApp is late to add this feature, users now have more ways to personalize their chat experience. The update marks WhatsApp’s first major step toward more customization options.
