Warner Bros. Pictures will release the animated film Tom and Jerry: Forbidden Compass in China on August 9, 2025. The movie will have its world premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
The film follows the famous cat-and-mouse duo as they accidentally travel through time inside a museum. Along the way, they meet new friends and face mysterious forces in a final showdown.
Tom and Jerry: Forbidden Compass is a co-production between Warner Bros. Pictures and Chinese studios. The film is directed by Zhang Gang, who also co-directed Kuiba 3 and worked on the animation for No.7 Cherry Lane, which won a Best Screenplay award at the 2019 Venice International Film Festival.
This is not Warner Bros.’ first localized version of Tom and Jerry for Asian markets. In 2023, the company released a Tom and Jerry series set in Singapore, which aired on Cartoon Network and HBO Go. There was also a separate series made for Japanese audiences.
This year marks the 85th anniversary of Tom and Jerry, which was created in 1940 by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera.
