Vinicius Jr. Set to Stay at Real Madrid Following Coaching Change

Real Madrid is confident that Vinicius Jr. will renew his contract after the firing of head coach Xabi Alonso, according to sources cited by Cadena SER.

The relationship between Vinicius and Alonso was reportedly complicated. Tensions reached a peak when Vinicius reacted angrily after being substituted in El Clasico.

Following a 2-1 win over Barcelona, Vinicius apologized to the club, president Florentino Perez, and fans. Notably, Alonso’s name was not mentioned in the statement, hinting at lingering issues between the player and coach.

Despite this, there were also public moments of praise from Alonso for Vinicius whenever he performed well. Vinicius had not committed to a contract extension beyond 2027, seemingly waiting to see how the managerial situation developed.

Alonso started strong with 13 wins in 14 games, but a series of losses and a defeat in the Spanish Super Cup final against Barcelona led to his dismissal. Alvaro Arbeloa replaced him as head coach.

With Alonso gone, Madrid is reportedly optimistic that Vinicius will sign a new deal. The club plans to give him the same “level of importance as Kylian Mbappe,” and a renewal until 2031 would cover his peak years at 25.

Vinicius aims to return to his top form, which almost earned him the Ballon d’Or in 2024, and reestablish himself as one of the world’s greatest players.
