Valve’s upcoming standalone VR headset, codenamed Deckard, is expected to launch in late 2025 with a price tag of around $1200, according to recent leaks from X/Twitter user @gabefollower.
The Deckard headset is set to be a major upgrade from the Valve Index, featuring redesigned controllers and advanced tracking technology.
Design and Features
The new Deckard controllers, codenamed “Roy”, are rumored to ditch motion-tracking rings for a more compact, ergonomic design.
The controllers are expected to feature a large D-pad, ABXY buttons, and oversized triggers, giving them a more traditional gamepad-like functionality.
However, the lack of finger tracking — a feature present in the Valve Index — may be seen as a downgrade by some VR enthusiasts.
Performance and Challenges
Deckard is rumored to support 120Hz refresh rates and 1440p resolution across two screens, which could push the limits of a standalone device. Battery life remains a major concern, especially for high-performance VR gaming.
Half-Life Rumors
Speculation is growing that Valve might release a new Half-Life VR title alongside the Deckard headset, similar to how Half-Life: Alyx showcased the Valve Index. However, no official confirmation has been made.
While Valve remains silent on the official details, the increasing volume of leaks suggests the company is gearing up for a significant VR release.
The high price tag and performance challenges will determine whether Deckard can compete with other VR headsets like the Meta Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro.
