Thousands of users reported issues with Elon Musk’s social media platform X on Monday morning. The outage affected both the app and desktop versions of the site.
Reports on Downdetector, a site that tracks user problems, jumped from just 15 at 8:15 a.m. to over 40,000 by 8:45 a.m.
Most users said the app was not working, while others had trouble accessing their timelines on the desktop site.
By 9:45 a.m., the number of reports dropped to around 8,000, and the platform appeared to be mostly back online.
X did not respond immediately to requests for comment. Its developer status page still showed “all systems are operational” during the outage.
This is not the first time X has faced technical problems. A brief outage hit the platform in January, and last spring tens of thousands of users were affected by a wave of outages that Elon Musk said came from a “massive cyberattack” linked to IP addresses in Ukraine.
Users took to X to vent their frustration, posting memes and jokes about the downtime. Many noted that the platform has seen more frequent outages since Musk rebranded Twitter to X.
Despite the disruption, the platform returned to normal, and most users were able to resume posting by mid-morning.
