The upcoming Pure Pool Pro game will run at native 8K resolution and 60 frames per second on the PlayStation 5 Pro, according to an announcement from Ripstone Games.
The game, a sequel to 2014’s Pure Pool, will also support native 4K resolution at 120 frames per second on the standard PlayStation 5.
The developers believe this performance is possible because of the game’s specific design. Since pool is played on a fixed table, the game’s demands are lighter compared to large open-world titles.
Ripstone Games’ George Holland explained that early testing in pre-alpha builds showed promising results even before optimization, giving the team confidence in the 8K performance on PS5 Pro.
Currently, very few PlayStation 5 Pro games aim for native 8K. Titles like Gran Turismo 7 and No Man’s Sky use Sony’s Spectral Super Resolution upscaling technology to achieve 8K output, but they do not run at true native 8K resolution.
While 8K televisions are still rare, developers are continuing to push technological boundaries. The PlayStation 5 Pro allows for higher visual quality with smoother frame rates, offering gamers more options for how they play.
The release date for Pure Pool Pro has not yet been confirmed.
