Former U.S. President Donald Trump has been officially nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. The nomination comes after his role in securing a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, ending what the White House called the “12 Day War.”
Representative Buddy Carter of Georgia submitted the nomination to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee. In his letter, Carter said Trump played an “extraordinary and historic role” in helping both sides reach an agreement.
The conflict began when Israel launched airstrikes against Iran, accusing them of being close to building a nuclear weapon. Iran responded with rocket attacks. The United States then carried out its own strikes on three key Iranian nuclear sites.
Just over a week later, a ceasefire was reached. Trump’s influence is being credited as key to ending the violence quickly.
Rep. Carter wrote, “President Trump’s actions stopped further escalation and helped prevent a wider war. He also took strong steps to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.”
This is not the first time Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. However, he has never won the award.
The Nobel Committee has not yet released a shortlist of finalists for the 2025 prize.
