Republican Congressman Thomas Massie has criticised the Trump administration over the ongoing war with Iran. He claims the White House has admitted that Israel pulled the United States into the conflict.
The comments come as joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes continue for a fifth day. The operation, known as “Operation Epic Fury,” targets Iranian nuclear and military sites. The White House says the strikes are necessary for security.
Massie, who represents Kentucky, said on social media that the war has already cost American lives and billions of dollars. He described the action as unauthorised and said Congress did not approve it.
President Donald Trump has defended the operation. He said the strikes are aimed at stopping Iran’s nuclear threat and protecting Israel. The administration has not directly responded to Massie’s latest claims.
Massie said he plans to work with Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna to push for a formal vote in Congress. He said lawmakers should go on record to support or oppose the conflict.
The debate follows reports that at least six U.S. service members were killed in retaliatory strikes. Costs for the military campaign are expected to rise further as operations continue.
Some lawmakers from both parties say the president must follow the War Powers Resolution, which limits military action without congressional approval. Others argue the strikes were defensive and necessary.
