A new poll shows that only 17% of Americans approve of President Donald Trump’s handling of federal files on Jeffrey Epstein. The survey reflects growing criticism of Trump, even among his supporters.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll surveyed 1,027 adults on July 15-16, 2025, with a margin of error of 3 points. Among Republicans, just 35% approved of Trump’s actions on the issue.
The poll also found that 60% of Americans believe the government is hiding information about Epstein’s death. Similarly, 69% believe the government is hiding his alleged client list. Even among Republicans, 55% think the government hides the death details and 62% suspect a hidden client list.
Only 6% of respondents disagreed that the government is hiding Epstein’s alleged client list.
The controversy has caused a rift within Trump’s base. Some right-wing leaders, including Rep. Lauren Boebert and Laura Loomer, have called for Trump to appoint a special counsel to investigate. Trump has declined, saying, “I have nothing to do with it.”
The issue stems from Trump’s second term, where MAGA figures like Charlie Kirk and Marjorie Taylor Greene openly criticized him for the Epstein files. Attorney General Pam Bondi has also been a focal point after suggesting the so-called “Epstein list” exists.
With this backlash, Trump faces a rare split with his supporters on an issue tied to trust, transparency, and conspiracy theories about Epstein.
