TikTok has reappeared on the Apple and Google app stores in the US, following assurances from the Trump administration that the ban would not yet be enforced, according to Bloomberg.
This development comes despite a law—signed by former President Joe Biden—ordering its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell its US operations to a neutral party.
The ban, which passed with bipartisan support in Congress and was later upheld by the Supreme Court, stemmed from concerns that TikTok could be used by the Chinese government for espionage and political manipulation—claims that both Beijing and TikTok have denied.
Former President Donald Trump, who initially supported banning TikTok during his first term, has since shifted his stance. During his campaign, he praised the platform for helping him reach billions of views and has since suggested a compromise that would allow TikTok to remain in operation under joint ownership.
Potential buyers for TikTok’s US operations include Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, billionaire Elon Musk, and investor Frank McCourt. Even YouTube star MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson) has expressed interest after investors approached him following his social media post about acquiring the platform.
With Trump’s recent remarks about a possible deal, the future of TikTok in the US remains uncertain. For now, however, the app is once again available for download.
