Meta has officially shifted its social platform Threads from Threads.net to Threads.com, giving the app a cleaner, more memorable web identity.
The move also comes with a batch of web app improvements that aim to make the platform more user-friendly—especially for creators.
Initially launched in July 2023 under Threads.net, the app had to wait until Meta acquired the Threads.com domain from a startup that previously owned it.
As of now, the transition is complete: typing Threads.com will take users directly to the app, while Threads.net will simply redirect to the new domain.
The platform, which now boasts over 320 million monthly active users, is steadily positioning itself as a strong alternative to X (formerly Twitter). The switch to a cleaner domain could help Meta further that goal.
Alongside the domain update, Instagram’s Adam Mosseri announced several new features for the web version of Threads. These include:
- Custom feeds now appear in the same order as the mobile app.
- Likes and saved posts are accessible via the main menu, no pinned column required.
- Posts can now be copied as images for easier sharing on platforms like Instagram.
- Users can add columns via a new icon on the right side of the screen.
- A “+” button at the bottom right opens a new window for composing posts.
- A new tool allows users to upload X (Twitter) archive data to find and follow creators they previously followed.
While some of these features are still being tested, they show Meta’s continued push to evolve Threads into a more robust and creator-friendly platform.
