Lionsgate’s psychological thriller The Housemaid has reached a major box office milestone, earning a total of $247.3 million worldwide. The film crossed the mark after its fifth weekend in theaters, which ended on January 18, 2026.

The strong performance makes the film a major financial success. The Housemaid was made on a reported budget of $35 million, giving it one of the highest profit margins among recent studio releases.

The box office run marks a new career high for Sydney Sweeney. The film has now passed the $220.3 million total of her 2023 romantic comedy Anyone But You.

This makes The Housemaid Sweeney’s highest-grossing film as a lead actor. It is also the second-highest-grossing movie of her entire career, behind Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, where she appeared in a supporting role.

The success also signals a turnaround for Sweeney after a mixed 2024 and early 2025. Industry observers say the film confirms her strength as a box office draw, especially in the thriller genre.

In North America, The Housemaid has earned $108.7 million. International markets have added $138.6 million, bringing the global total to $247.3 million. The film has held well week to week, with box office drops staying below 25 percent.

The movie has performed especially well in the United Kingdom and France. Analysts credit strong word of mouth and the popularity of the original novel by Freida McFadden for its overseas appeal.

For director Paul Feig, The Housemaid is now his second-highest-grossing film, passing Spy from 2015. It now trails only Bridesmaids and is projected to finish its run between $310 million and $360 million worldwide.
