Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, speaking at SXSW London, advised students to study STEM subjects—math, physics, and computer science—alongside gaining hands-on experience with AI tools.

Hassabis, a Nobel Prize winner, believes AI will create valuable new jobs in the next 5–10 years for those who are technically skilled. He said understanding how AI systems work is essential, even in a world where AI is replacing many jobs.

He compared this AI shift to the Industrial Revolution, calling it a major transformation of industries.

He also encouraged students to experiment with AI tools and be creative in using them. Hassabis said today’s children will become “AI natives”, just like previous generations were raised on the internet.

At Google I/O 2025, he predicted that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) could arrive by 2030, adding urgency for students to prepare early.

Key Takeaways:

  • Focus on STEM subjects.
  • Get hands-on AI experience.
  • Learn how to use AI tools creatively.
  • Prepare for an AI-driven job market.
  • AGI might arrive by 2030, so start now.
