The final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things is reportedly one of the most expensive television seasons ever produced.

According to multiple industry reports, Stranger Things Season 5 has a total production budget of $400 to $480 million. The season includes eight episodes, putting the cost at roughly $50 to $60 million per episode.

The budget figures come from reports citing industry insiders, mainly from Puck News, and have been widely referenced by outlets such as Forbes, ScreenRant, Cosmopolitan, and Wikipedia. Netflix has not officially confirmed the numbers.

If accurate, the budget marks a major increase from Season 4, which reportedly cost around $30 million per episode.

The massive spending places Stranger Things Season 5 among the most expensive TV productions in history. It rivals Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which reportedly cost about $465 million for its first season. The final season also exceeds the budgets of many blockbuster films, including Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Several factors are believed to be driving the high cost. These include heavy use of visual effects, with work reportedly involving Industrial Light & Magic, increased salaries for the main cast, large-scale set construction, and unusually long episode runtimes. Many episodes are said to run between 90 and 120 minutes, closer to feature-length films than standard TV episodes.

While Netflix has remained silent on the exact budget, the consistency of reports since late 2025 suggests the final season represents a major financial investment as the series comes to an end.
