The creators of Stranger Things have explained why Demogorgons did not appear in the show’s final episode.

The Netflix series ended after nearly ten years with the heroes defeating Vecna and the Mind Flayer. While the finale received mostly positive reviews, some fans were disappointed that Demogorgons, one of the show’s most iconic monsters, were absent.

The Demogorgons first appeared in season one, kidnapping Will and killing Barbara. Over the following seasons, their threat level gradually decreased, but they remained a fan favorite. Their absence in the finale led many fans to question the decision.

Speaking to The Wrap, Matt Duffer said the Demogorgons were simply not needed for the final battle. “Vecna was not expecting this sneak attack on his home turf,” he explained. “He doesn’t need his little ant army to attack. The Mind Flayer can take care of this himself.”

Duffer added that the team wanted to focus on the final showdown with Vecna and the Mind Flayer. He also noted “demo fatigue,” explaining that the show had explored all the storylines the team wanted with the Demogorgons in earlier episodes.

Some fans criticized the explanation on social media, comparing it to the controversial ending of Game of Thrones. Others were more forgiving, praising the finale despite the missing monsters.
