Starlink, the satellite internet company owned by Elon Musk, has received permission to operate in Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) gave Starlink two licenses. These licenses allow the company to run satellite internet and use radio equipment.
Starlink will offer high-speed internet through satellites in space. It does not need cables or towers. This will help people in remote villages, hill areas, and islands where internet is slow or missing.
The approval came on April 28, 2025, from Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. The BTRC handed over the licenses on April 29. Starlink has also opened an office in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka, to start work.
This service is expected to improve education, business, and communication in rural areas. It will also help prevent internet shutdowns during emergencies.
Starlink is now the second company to bring this kind of internet to South Asia, after Sri Lanka.
