Squid Game Shatters Streaming Records — What’s Next for the Franchise?

The third and final season of Squid Game has made history by becoming Netflix’s biggest-ever TV launch.

In just three days, the show was viewed more than 60.1 million times and watched for over 368.4 million hours. This makes it the most successful launch in Netflix history for any show in that time frame.

Season 2 had a strong start last year with 68 million views, but it took four days to reach that number.

Squid Game Season 3 is already the ninth-most watched non-English-language season on Netflix. The first two seasons hold the top two spots.

Reviews for the final season have been mixed but mostly positive. Critics say the season is less sharp than earlier ones, but fans continue to watch in huge numbers.

Although this is said to be the final season, Netflix may not be done with the Squid Game universe. A spin-off reality show, Squid Game: The Challenge, has already been a hit, and a second season is in the works.

There are also rumors that American director David Fincher may work on an English-language remake. Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk says he hasn’t been asked to lead that project but is open to helping if needed.

Fans now wait to see if the story will continue in a new form or if this record-breaking season truly marks the end.
