Squid Game ― The Front Man

With Squid Game season 2 receiving mixed reviews from viewers, actor Lee Byung-hun, who portrays the enigmatic Front Man, has shared his thoughts on the reception.

Despite the criticisms, Byung-hun expressed that he respects the differing opinions, acknowledging that all art is subject to critique.

In an interview with Star News Korea, Byung-hun emphasized that no work can be free of criticism and that he personally enjoyed the experience of working on the season.

He praised director Hwang Dong-hyuk, calling him “a very smart person,” and noted that he had fun with his expanded role in season 2.

The Front Man’s character, revealed as Hwang In-ho, plays a more active and antagonistic role this season, facing off against Gi-hun, portrayed by Lee Jung-jae.

Their contrasting ideologies make for an intense conflict, with the Front Man’s motives evolving in significant ways. Despite the actor’s positive outlook, many fans have voiced disappointment with the season.

Squid Game season 2 currently holds a 63% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with complaints about uneven pacing, a slower start, and a sudden, cliffhanger ending that leaves viewers with many unanswered questions.

Some feel the season was more of a setup for season 3, which is expected to provide closure to the ongoing storylines.

However, Byung-hun’s perspective suggests that the season was always intended to lay the groundwork for a larger narrative, with director Hwang planning for both seasons 2 and 3 to be developed together.

Fans can likely expect many of their questions to be answered when the series returns for its third season in 2025.
