Lee Jung-jae, who stars as Seong Gi-hun in Squid Game, recently shared his thoughts on the shocking cliffhanger ending of season 2.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lee expressed his surprise at the bold ending, saying, “How could you end the season at that point?”
He acknowledged that many viewers would be frustrated by the unresolved fate of the remaining players but also noted that audiences today tend to enjoy cliffhangers.
While Squid Game season 1 received positive reviews, with an 83% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, season 2’s reception has been more mixed.
Currently, season 2 holds a 65% audience score, with many fans criticizing the rushed pacing and the cliffhanger ending, which left them eager for the next installment.
Some fans feel the ending was designed to stretch the series further, unlike season 1, which felt more complete.
Despite the criticisms, the upcoming season 3 is expected to wrap up Gi-hun’s story. The season will be released in 2025, offering a much shorter wait than the three years between seasons 1 and 2.
Fans are hopeful that the final season will provide closure to the ongoing storylines, including Gi-hun’s quest for vengeance and the fate of the Front Man.
