The final season of Squid Game is coming soon, and it promises to be more intense than ever. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has revealed that season 3 will focus on games designed to expose the darkest parts of human nature.
“I wanted very intense games to bring out the bottom parts of human nature,” Hwang told Entertainment Weekly. He said that this season will use fear, especially fear of height, to push the players to their limits.
Season 3 continues the story of Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who returns to the deadly game after a failed rebellion in season 2. This time, he is dealing with the loss of his friend and facing even more difficult challenges.
Hwang explained that while season 1 explored extreme capitalism and season 2 showed a failed attempt to break the system, season 3 asks a deeper question: how can people stay human in a world full of brutal competition?
Another character, Myung-gi (played by Im Si-wan), will also have a major character arc. Hwang hinted that Myung-gi’s journey will be one of the most dramatic of the season.
The trailer also teased the birth of a baby, which will play an important role in the story. Hwang confirmed that the baby will affect not just Jun-hee (Jo Yu-ri), but also the fate of many others.
The final season of Squid Game premieres on Netflix on June 27.
